Everything is loud
!! This is the first in a series of blogposts that I’ve written on bearblog, I’m gonna retire that blog after finishing the migration of posts to here !!
So I’ve been noticing a thing recently in my life, every sound is loud. Not in the way that it hurts my ears kind of loud, but more so that it is loud enough to drown other sounds. If it’s the middle of the night, with barely any other noise than the fan creaking, a microwave or an alarm would be glaringly obvious to me. If I watch a video early in the morning or talk with someone in a quiet place, it would be very clear to me on what they’re talking about.
Compare that to other times of the day, I can barely hear anything individually as everything drowns out everything else. The group next table’s talk is interfering with me listening on my teammate explaining something, I can barely hear a video if I turn on the tap when I want to listen to something while doing the dishes and I have to put the speakers to deafening volumes so that I can hear my playlist properly in traffic. My ‘silent’ (relatively speaking) car drives me crazy sometimes for some reason; although by all intends and purposes it’s supposed not to.
I know it’s considered a condition if I can’t separate sounds from background noise. Sometimes I can, if I really focus (and suffer from a headache after). There’s noise cancelling earbuds/headphones which help for some people, which I don’t really like using because I feel like my ears are going to pop (not that it isn’t effective, it’s just a no no for me). I’m not sure how else I’m supposed to remedy this. Maybe I just have to be more patient than before.
